Remembering Gwen Guthrie

The video of the day is one that is a favorite of mine and it is still jamming to this day. As a teenager, my mom would play music often thruout the house and it would be loud. Being from the south, she would raise the windows on a sunny Saturday morning, get me up out of my bed and give me instructions. As we cleaned the house, I always knew she would pick a song that would get us to cleaning as well as dancing.

Gwen Guthrie recorded a song that became the anthem for the single/married women all over the world. My vivid memory of this song is simply how loud my mother would sing it and play it over and over again.

Upon seeing Ms. Guthrie, I was mesmerized by her beauty as well how much stage presence she had. She was a amazing vocalist who had sung background for the likes of Aretha Franklin, Cissy Houston and a host of others. Sadly, Gwen lost her battle with Uterine cancer in 1999 but her music and spirit lives on thru her music.

Enjoy these videos of a Legend who was taken away too soon.

Rest In Peace Ms. Guthrie.
