Nell Carter - Simply Legendary
Today we remember a Legend who helped paved the way for strong, independent and witty actresses/comedians everywhere. She was the ultimate girl who gave each performance the energy and wit that it required daily.
Nell Carter is best known for her work on the stage and the screen even starring in a small yet coveted role on the now cancelled soap "Ryan's Hope."
Her other stage credits included Hello Dolly, Hair, Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Bubbling Brown Sugar. She would best be remembered for her Emmy award-nominated role as the sassy housekeeper on the 1980s television sitcom, Gimme a Break.
She originally made her name on the Broadway stage, however, winning a Tony award for her performance in the musical Ain't Misbehavin'. Nell was light on her feet and could dance and jam along with the rest of them.
Even though she may have had inner struggles regarding her weight, she could always be known to give 100 percent to each and every task and scene.
Sadly the world lost Ms. Carter to complications from Diabetes and even though she is no longer with us, she leaves a legacy that will be forever remembered.
