LIRM Lifestyle Spotlight ~ "My Bookshelves & Me"

As I prepare to lay my head on my plush pillow and dream about more successful posts, I began to think of my grandmother and all she meant to me. Whenever I think of my yearly trek to Houston, Texas for the summer, I remember the great excitement that awaited me upon my arrival.

I can still remember the front door opening and seeing my favorite summer home in the form of my grandparents plush home. Not only was it refreshing to see my family but I always knew that my grandmother would have loads of books, magazines and newspapers to read daily.

From the latest edition of the local Houston Chronicle newspaper, the ever popular Ebony/Jet magazines and beyond, my grand mom never failed to have heapings of publications for favorite grandson to read for days on end.

What I now know to be true is that she saw something in me that required me to read everything in site. We could be in the car heading to the store and she would instantly ask me to read various billboards, stop signs and local banners. Before you knew it, this blogger was out reading his older uncles and cousins with the quickness.

As my summer break came to an end, I found that my mother being the no nonsense woman that she is, informed me that I had to find a proper place for all the books that I brought down the highway back home.

Being the ever so smart reader that I am and never the one to be at a loss of words, I was embraced by my mother's stern yet playful voice stating the following, "Boy!, I made sure I went out and got you a bookshelf for all your books because you gonna have them all over my living room."

After my quick anger subsided and being that I had no choice but to get over it, I found myself loving my new bookshelf and all that it brought to my room. Not only was it nice and modern but it went perfectly with my super cool custom made water bed that my grandparents blessed me with.

After the hype began to die down and my chores increased around the house such as: Washing/Folding clothes, watching my baby sister and the like, I realized that my happiness towards my bookshelves had begun to fade.

Once I became a bachelor with my own groovy yet spacious pad, I always made sure that I had my own bookshelf to keep me happy. Now be it as it may but even if I didn't have a bookshelf?, best believe I made one out of a functional cabinet located throughout my spotless apartment.

Check out some of these amazing selections of custom bookshelves and see if you don't embrace the love of a Custom Bookshelf but please note, it is rather addictive if I say so myself.
