Jerald Hoover - Humbled Documentarian
Having interviewed Noted Author Jerald Hoover in the past, I find him to be a man of many talents. Not only has he authored various books, received numerous accolades but he is also adding documentarian to his repertoire. He is in the final stages of producing a documentary on Mount Vernon, New York and how the art of basketball has aided to the city's accomplishments.
I had the awesome privilege of speaking with my brother about this major accomplishment and one thing I know for sure, He is FOCUSED. Take a look and be impressed as well as inspired.
Jerald, My brother, I must say that I am so proud of what you have accomplished.
Thank you Darian, It is an honor to be considered/Interview once again.
Absolutely, Your a friend to Legends Icons and Role Models. Tell our readers about the documentary.
It's an epic about a tiny 4.2 square mile town just outside Bronx, NY that has produced 8 or 9 NBA players. Amazing people such as Denzel Washington, Heavy D, Dick Clark, Art Carney and Sean Combs have lived there. It's an amazing place as far as home grown talent is concerned and in a variety of fields.
How long have you been working on it?
I've been at Four Square Miles to Glory for four years now. It's amazing that most of, if not all of my passionate and thought provoking projects have taken years to produce and complete.
My book "My Friend, My Hero" took nine years to get published. Once it was published, it flowed like a river and is yet flowing even after nineteen years. The most amazing thing about it is that GOD is in control and he is so good!
Yes he is! Has it been a challenge producing and how did you meet the challenges combined with it?
Well, I have interviewed on camera close to one hundred people from all over the country. The challenge was getting the funding to go to various places, getting a camera man to accompany us as well as making sure that food, lodging and travel accommodations were taking care of the right way.
I worked with a THREAD type string budget! A shoe string budget is not the proper term for this undertaking. Through it all, I've met some amazing legendary people and I've learned so much by wearing so many hats and performing so many duties.
Way to go. You worked your magic my brother. Where would you like for this documentary go and why?
My prayer is to go for the top in viewership, be it the bigwigs at the cable companies or theatrical release, whichever provides us with the most bang that's where we're going. We are also focused on DVD sales as well. Who knows, maybe it will trickle down to the schools as a learning piece.
What makes your project different from other ones out there today?
It's star studded with NBA stars but not the Kobe,LeBron or Michael's of the world. I do have the likes of Phil Jackson, Jerry West, Willis Reed, Clyde Frazier and other big wigs in both print and television media.
These people all spoke of the players that came from Mount Vernon and how they respected or admired them. So, that part was easy, aside from me being star struck in the beginning.
Absolutely amazing Jerald. We are super excited about this next level your on. Thanks so much for sharing with our readers.
Thank you Darian, you are making a difference in the world today.
