The Iconic Beauty of Dame Lena Horne
In a time where reality television females and video vixens are being considered classy and legendary, Dame Lena Horne stood out like a sore thumb. She didn't follow a trail that was already created by someone else she simply blazed her own path and did it with a sense of class that no one has been able to mimic.
She recorded more than 40 albums, has tons of Emmy and Tony awards and yet the most striking thing about Ms. Horne was her beauty. To a young African American boy in the deep south, to see someone whose beauty often had me in a trance was always a treat. My grandparents would often show me magazines and movies that Ms. Horne had starred in and I was IMPRESSED.
I was amazed at how she had substance and class. She never backed down, spoke her mind and simply put: "Lived Her Life on Her Own Terms."
Her beauty is so timeless that her granddaugther Jenny Lumet has the same type of high cheekbone structure and porcelain skin that Ms. Horne has and it is being carried on by her children.
In my opinion, all the young starlets, singers and actresses who feel the way to success is skin and sin, let Dame Lena Horne's life be a map to success. Her favorite quote is simple yet powerful: "It's Not The Load That Breaks You Down, It's The Way You Carry It."
Rest In Peace Dame Lena Horne, you may be gone but we have your timeless beauty and most importantly your legacy to look back on.

Porcelain skin? That comment trivializes everything that made Lena Horne the wonder that she is today.
