Sophia, give our readers some background info of where you come from and the goal of your brand/businesses.
I come from a good place! I have an amazing family that served me a great childhood, which led to me becoming a well-rounded adult. I was blessed with the opportunity of living abroad, garnering many experiences and meeting wonderful people along the way.
Pitted Cherries is definitely an accumulation of experiences from different memoirs of those along my journey. I took from that, a blueprint of life in another person’s reality. There is Life on the Dark-Side…. LOL
Being successful is something that one can tell is a part of your daily ritual. Tell our readers what inspires you to continue to reach for the stars?
My inspiration mainly comes from my desire to serve as an example to not only my son but my family and friends. I have done many things in my life that would seem far-fetched to others. By me stepping out the box and just doing it despite any negativity or criticism, I KNOW it has left a lasting impression of inspiration.
I truly enjoy pushing myself to accomplish all my dreams in life. It’s what keeps me young, humble and I hope and pray that others will choose to live their lives to the fullest as well.
Being in your field can be extremely stressful. Share with our readers how you handle stress?
I can’t lie! Stress, stresses me out! Since becoming a mother, I am learning great tolerance. I have much more of a desire to understand as opposed to being understood. It allows me time, which I don’t have much of, to think things through before blowing up. I try to envision past the current situation and see how much it would really matter later. For the most part that usually works for me!
Other times, I sit in a quiet place to hear myself. There are so many distractions in my life and the quiet time allows me to sort things out, take a breather and a glass of white wine on the side helps too!
As a young woman growing up, did you have any role models who you looked up to? Tell us more about them.
Omg! I must say that everyone in my upbringing served as a role model. Every person inspired me to do and NOT TO DO! At a young age I was able to categorize their actions as lessons learned.
My family was and still is incredible in the sense of defining unconditional love for one another. Buffalo, New York, provided a real childhood that has left a lasting impression on me that I will forever hold dear. From Ms. Mary, owner of the corner candy store, to my grandma’s five dollar Fish Fry Friday dinners, I thank them all for shaping who I am today.
Whenever I see the movie Lackawanna Blues, I get emotional because that’s how I feel towards my elders and peers and I owe it all to them.
We live in a critical world and many pre judge before truly knowing the person. How do you deal with criticism?
I think for anyone, it depends on who it’s coming from. Of course those closest to you, there is a tendency to take it more personally. It simply is what it is and at the end of the day, whatever I do, it rests on a common denominator of Character. Although we all want to be liked, it’s not something that I lose sleep over. I can only be who I am. My mommy taught me that!
What would you say to that young person who has a dream but not a lot of support?
I’d tell them it’s “YOUR DREAM”, have the courage to have courage. If you have support, great, but it shouldn’t stop the show. All dreams should start as personal accomplishments and the benefits are for you and you only. Yes we would love for the world to support our dreams but try not to give others that power. It’s difficult at times but you must stay true to yourself and keep moving forward.
You often can be found on the social networks where you celebrate your friends and family? How important is this to you?
Important is a strong word. I will lean more towards it being entertaining and enjoying having the ability to communicate with friends and family both near and far. It’s really cool.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
In five years, I see myself still trying to be the best mommy I can be, a pillar of support for my family and friends and just closer to the person God has destined for me to be. I’m in a good place right now and I only pray to keep on this path at this pace…. I am truly blessed.
