Judith Jamison ~ Intimate Interview

I can remember my younger days living in Houston and hanging out with my uncles who were more like my brothers. From the latest soul music to vintage television programs, this blogger can honestly say that I've been gifted to be introduced to various types of arts.

My uncle Anthony, whom I am sad to say just passed away from a lengthy illness, was in love with modern dance and all the theatrics that comes with it. I can still remember him watching and reading everything that had to do with Dame Judith Jamison.

Whenever he would see a picture of her, see her on a television program or thankfully experiencing her gift of modern dance in person, he would be on the highest level of love imaginable. I can still remember him returning home from treks across the country as he traveled the world and saw more than many will see in a lifetime.

My first memory of watching this legend on the screen comes with the imagine of: smooth skin, long legs and sharp talent and I am here to say that there is no one like Judith Jamison. When I saw this intense yet informative interview with Dame Judith, I instantly smiled and remembered how much she was revered in my uncles life. This Philadelphia native got her start in 1964 performing at the American School of Ballet and would eventually go on to join the Alvin Ailey Company.

Before retiring this year, she held the esteemed honor as Artistic Director of the Ailey American Dance Theater. She is held to the highest honor all over the world and here at LIRM we are honored to blog about this living legend.

Check out this intimate interview with her good friend journalist Charles Rose and sit back and learn from this warrior.
