Jean Michel Basquaint - "Radiant Child"
Being born and raised in Louisiana, traveling back and forth to Houston, Texas was always an exciting time in my life. I mean, imagine being in school in Louisiana and traveling to your grandparents house on various weekends, holidays and most importantly summer breaks to do whatever your heart desired.
One of my favorite uncles, Donald, was one of the most stylish dudes that I have ever met and actually serves as my stylish muse. He was a ladies man, fresh to death fashion wise and loved the arts. I can still remember him making me read magazines and books as did my grandmother.
One artist in particular that I remember reading about was the iconic Jean Michel Basquaint and how much artistic swag that he possessed. Brooklyn born Basquaint was in this bloggers opinion before his time with his unique and intense drawings/creations that can still make many stare for hours.
He would go on to have his work showcased in some of the most exclusive spots and would befriend such iconic individuals like Andy Warhol, David Bowie and dated Madonna as well. Thankfully there is an amazing documentary on the works of Jean Michel entitled The Radiant Child.
Taken from hours of interviews with his friend, its a poignant insight on his talent, work and background. Sadly he passed away in 1988 but his work is still considered legendary and is yet coveted. Check out the documentary and see the genius that is Jean Michel Basquaint.
