Artistic Spotlight ~ Dame Beah Richards

LIRM is determined to make a difference in the types of stories we share with our readers. This blogger is constantly thinking of various outlets to entice our followers to think deeper and live a more stylish life.

Today we showcase a Legendary actress who helped raise the bar artistically like no other. I can remember watching the iconic Guess Who's Coming To Dinner starring Sir Sidney Poitier, Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy.

The above mentioned actors would go on to garner accolades for their intense portrayal on the challenges of interracial dating but there was a breakout star in their mist. Her name was Beah Richards and she brought such an intensity to the role of Sidney's sensitive yet stearn mother that movie goers were enamoured of her for decades to come.

Dame Beah would go on to star in various stage productions such as Purlie Victorious, A Raisin in the Sun, Beloved and another iconic production In The Heat of The Night. She would eventually receive two Emmy Awards as well as be the subject of the award winning documentary Beah: A Black Woman Speaks which received rave reviews at the 2003 AFI Film Festival.

Sadly Ms. Richards passed away in 2000 but her body of work is something that LIRM is proud to showcase. Check out just a few videos that showcase this Legend who left the level of success and respect at an all time high.
