This episode opens with our girl Sara, who has been somewhat put to the side this season, being called to the scene of a shooting involving a kid from Sara's past case.
The girl, sweetly named Abby who was dressed in a school girl uniform, had a flashback of the night of Abby's family's murder. The following moments were key:
WHAT'S THAT SMELL: So Abby tells Sara that she remembers a certain scent on the killer the night of her families murder. Sara doesn't believe her at first but after going back over it in her mind she starts to realize things weren't what they seemed.
Ryan and David are prepping the dead guy's remains and Ryan ask if he smells what he smells? Ryan has good instincts and deduces that the dead guy smells of smoke and what not.
SARA'S SECRETS: Sara and Ryan strike up a conversation regarding how her mom killed her father and just as she is getting into the juicy parts? The phone rings and off to the bosses office she goes. She and D.B. go back and forth about Sara's work load and Sara gets the clearance to reopen the case regarding Abby's family murder.
DOC IS PISSED: Coroner Doc is called upon to re test Abby's dad's remains and Doc was NOT pleased. Nevertheless he tells D.B. that he will have to unearth his remains and surprisingly the body held up well with assistance from good embalming processes. They eventually find that the original cause of death was not the proper results and things get more intense.
*EXCUSE US WHILE WE THROW UP*
LET SLEEPING BAGS LIE: Finlay & Morgan reenact the murder scene and test every single piece of evidence involved. We are talking sleeping bags, tents and clothes just to name a few and this is where they were able to find prints from the murderer. They come upon the fingerprints of a local convict who had a beard just as Abby remembered via flashbacks.
THAT'S JUST HER BABY DADDY: The team realizes that the beard guy, played by Tori Spelling's husband Dean, was the father of one of the little girls killed as well as the ex of the murdered mother. He is also a registered sex offender as well. - We see what the writers did there people!!
But anyhow
NICK DOESN'T SUFFER FOOLS: Nick gets with the registered sex offender Garth and rakes him over the coals. Garth tries to get testy with Nick and Nick tells him to 'Sit his Ass Down" - Nick doesn't play around. Garth tells him that he didn't kill anyone and he just wanted to see his daughter after being kept away from her so long.
MEMORIES LIKE THE CORNERS OF MY MIND: Sara takes Abby back to the scene of the crime and after an intense flashback session Abby remembers the killer wearing a patch with an Elk badge on it along with blood.
This leads them to a hunting type lodge and after meeting the mysterious guy at the front desk they scan thru pages and pages of potential suspects. After finding one in particular they trace him to his truck in the woods and guess what? You guessed it - He was murdered already.
Something is off in the parks people!!! Off!!!
ICE COLD KILLERS: The potential killer was made to look like he killed himself but you know the CSI team? They figure it out. The guy at the front desk is fingered as the killer and once they get to the core of it all they find that the murders were planned after the killers met the parents. The front desk guy murdered each family member simply because the family was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
INTENSE EPISODE!!!
