We Pose A Question - Where Is Phyllis Hyman's Biopic/Documentary?

Music is an ever-changing machine that is also a constant presence in our lives and to some- that might be a good thing or a bad thing. These days we are being inundated with new artists who the labels feel have that "it" factor and well -- often they don't. We also have artist who seem to feel the need to get naked so they can sell units.

It's a wonderful gift that makes you feel good especially when you hear your fav song on the radio or streaming services. Can you imagine the feeling a young five year old girl has as she sits in her car seat and her parents put on the ever funky Mark Ronson produced Uptown Funk or even that excited wife who practically falls out when she goes to concert with the likes of veteran performers Jody Watley, Patti Labelle or Prince on stage?

We know - We would fall forward too!! Music is a powerful tool and one artist who gave us a plethora of music that makes us feel the above mentioned way is the late Phyllis Hyman. Her voice was smooth like a smooth cup of cappuccino and her performances are almost haunting.

The late powerhouse 5 octave range kept us entertained for years with appearances on Broadway in the critically hailed Sophisticated Ladies which showcased her vocal abilities to the entire world.

Nobody knew that Phyllis was battling inner demons during the height of her career because she gave it her all and then some. Even singing disco joints, ballads or jingles, she always delivered and can we just say her impromptu live performance on The Arsenio Hall Show where she stood barefoot *as she often did* and wowed the crowd is still being viewed today.

She not only battled depression and bi-polar disorder but she also battled record companies and it's executives who wanted to market her a certain way and she wasn't having any of that. She actually spoke of her battles years ago in a heartfelt interview with Ebony where she talked about her highs and lows.

Phyllis is beloved around the world and we believe she deserves a biopic/movie that will tell her story. Her life is a complicated story that must be told from a unique perspective and her music?? MUST BE included.

Songs like Betcha By Golly Wow, Meet Me On The Moon, I Don't Wanna Lose You are just a few masterpieces that she left with us that have become the soundtracks for loads of road trips and family reunions. Sadly the mental battles that Phyllis faced eventually caused her to take her own life and left her family, friends and fans feeling hopeless to helping her overcome it all.

Based off of interviews with friends and family she did it her way and would never have imagined the massive love that she has to this day and for that she deserves our love and respect.

Perhaps a detailed documentary via Netflix or HBO would suffice especially after the recent successes of documentaries from noted artists like  Nina Simone or the upcoming documentary on Janis Joplin.

We love you Phyllis!!!
