Mr. Sky thank you for this interview. Please share with our readers where you hail from and how the desire to be a stylist came to fruition.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, I came into the fashion industry after graduating from college in Atlanta. I was working in a clothing boutique after deciding against a career in Corporate America. I guess I needed some retail therapy. The boutique had a lot of celebrity foot traffic that subsequently became clients and the rest naturally fell into place.
There are many individuals out today who publicly hail themselves stylists. What would be the most important thing to remember once a person begins to flourish in this area? How important is being an intern in the area of being a stylist?
I totally agree, too many claim to be stylists prematurely. Like any passion that you desire to be successful in, LEARN YOUR CRAFT! I didn't claim myself as a stylist until after assisting under well qualified and experienced stylist for 2 years. So a great mentor ship goes a long way. Also, I made sure to build a well diverse portfolio working with amazing photographers, hair and makeup artists, models and artists by testing and being creative.
Amazing! Being in your field, I am quite sure that you have met many celebrities over the years. Who has left you speechless upon meeting them?
Well, being in this industry one has to appear (at least) to be unphased by celebrity. But there are occasions in which you are totally caught off guard...Beyonce and George Clooney.
Judging from your website, you are a very busy man. Tell us, what is the process leading up to arriving on the set.
Depending on the job there are a few variances, but typically I begin the process with brainstorming and researching after I receive all the details for the job. After getting a vision in mind, I schedule showroom appointments, prep via showrooms, studio services, PR Houses and shopping at stores and boutiques.
I then start a process of editing the looks, weeding out the weakest styles from the strongest. Fittings are sometimes before the job, but can also happen a few hours before the shoot. And with that in mind, I pack up the whip accordingly, say a quick prayer and head out.
You have worked with some of the best in the industry, is there anyone that you wish to work with?
Kerry Washington and Zoe Kravitz would be loads of fun, but I honestly enjoy hot and new talent on the rise. They're eager and excited and less jaded by the industry and the process of imaging.
What can we expect from Jason Sky in the future?
I really am excited about furthering my brand and continuing to expand my style perspective. I've dabbled a bit with on camera work and would love to be on a platform in which I can give expert advice and opinions on fashion to the masses. No one is presently visible that looks like me.
Jason, we live in extremely critical times. How do you deal with criticism and how do you remain grounded?
I stay grounded by keeping true friends and family close. I keep on my blinders on at all times...I can't check for folks in the next lane...it can bring up a "hater" spirit. So I blaze my own path and trust that what God has for me, its for me and only me.
Your work can be seen on the likes of Diann Valentine, Mary Mary, Lauren London and more, how do you come up with the pieces to make it a winning ensemble?

I believe that every woman has Diva potential. But its more about "image than style" for me. There's more truth in the look and you don't come across looking contrived or "styled". Great use of color, accentuating the positives, minimizing the negative, and mixing up the look with high end. Vintage, classic pieces, affordable pieces and a great fit for the body, is my recipe for a winning look.
Raven Symone'
As a stylist, what are 5 things that a lady should never be without? 5 things that a gentlemen should always have?
Women:
1. Appropriate under garments for a smooth foundation.
2. The Perfect Little Black Dress.
3. Diamond Studs or Hoops.
4. Pencil Skirt.
5. Nude Pump (4in +).
Men:
1. A great watch.
2. A classic well tailored Black Suit.
3. Perfect fitting jeans for your style.
4. Stylish Black dress shoe/boot.
5. Shades perfect for your face shape.
What sets your gift/brand apart from others?
I feel set apart because I'm more that just a stylist. I've worked on my craft and I still work on my craft with my experience in every aspect of the fashion industry: Music, TV, Film, Editorial, and Design. With this experience, I focus on my clients' complete image (head to toe, including hair and makeup choices). Trends come and go...but one's image can last a lifetime.

We live in a time when everyone wants to be something and strive for relevance, what would be your advice to them?
Follow your passion and let the money follow you. Always be true to yourself or this industry will eat you alive. You don't have to step on someone else to get ahead.
